RAF Museum WAAF Bear
This adorable bear is dressed in a classic Women’s Auxiliary Air Force inspired uniform. Crafted from soft plush fabric, the bear features a smart WAAF blue uniform coat with a matching cap and handbag.

On 28 June 1939, King George VI established the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) to serve with the Royal Air Force in time of war. The WAAF made its first public appearance in July 1939 at the National Service Rally. During the Second World War, WAAF members proudly wore their Air Force blue uniforms, though these proved impractical for diverse duties, from strenuous barrage balloon work to delicate instrument repairs. Originally part of the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS), the WAAF became a separate but linked service to the RAF, aimed at substituting women for RAF personnel where possible.
